Back in the mid-'60's, in our little hometown of Jonesboro, the cheapest gas was 29.9 @ the Rose Oil station. Highest was AMOCO "white gas" for 39.9 @ the American Oil station.

Kids with a "bug" could cruise around town all night on a "dollars worth". Sometimes several kids would chip in a few coins, in order to buy that "dollars worth".

Guys with Musclecars would sometimes buy @ Rose Oil, so they'd have more to spend on brewsky. If they wanted better performance, they'd buy AMOCO.

Buy the late '60's/early '70's, it was 39.9 @ Rose Oil & 49.9 for AMOCO.

There was a gas shortage in the fall of '73. Lots of stations would run out & close early. Hard to find gas after dark.

I went to the NHRA Finals in Amarillo that year, driving a 472 powered '68 Caddy. Was running low on gas somewhere in North TX, about 3-4am. Just before I was about to stop & wait on daylight, I saw the lights of a big all-night truck stop. They had plenty of gas. So, I made it to Amarillo just about daylight.
