OK so I tore things down somewhat. Had to remove the valve body to get that band out so I could remove that forward drum. No obvious damage to anything. That plastic washer at the back was out of place but unknown if that was from disassembly or the original problem.

Tomorrow will configure trans vertically somehow and try to reassemble.

How would I look for damage? I doubt the most forward clutch pack would be damaged as the pump would have been pushing against the forward drum I think? So then it would be the clutch pack in the forward drum that might have been damaged?
