The engine displacement and power band of said engine could be a factor in the combo youe are adding about. A455 or 400 with mild cams, properly built would handle the load easily. My 77 TA with its 7.6:1 400 engine and its 2.41 rear gear had NO issues cruising at highway speeds. Going to a 2.1 actual gear with a more powerful engine, should be fine.
