I haven't ever had any problems, but it does provide a layer of protection in case something does happen. With electronic banking these days, it was simple to create the separate account and manage the money in it from my computer.

As for whether they include sales tax on a sale, eBay has no control over that - they have to follow the individual state laws about whether sales tax is required or not.
Stuart - I have done virtually the same. I have one account for Paypal purchases only. I don't accept Paypal. I have a second account for Ebay.

I don't keep funds in either account. I have been with our bank almost since Noah landed the Ark, and have some perks, one of which is no penalty on a zero-balance account.

I collect a number of various items:

There is a wonderful coin auction run by Heritage Auctions.

Stamps are sold on Stampauctionnetwork.

Trading cards on sold on Net54.

Maybe someday, someone with a good reputation in the car hobby will start an auction handling car parts to compete with Ebay.

We buy quite a bit on Ebay, mostly office supplies (paper, labels, shipping tape, boxes, etc.), but also hardware (brass fittings, screws, brass rods, steel rods, etc.).

I can buy fiberglass impregnated strapping tape on Ebay for about 25 percent of the local discount house price (I buy a case of 72 rolls); and about 10 percent of retail. 72 rolls will last maybe 3~4 months.

Ebay, like a match, is STILL a useful tool; just don't get burned. Instead of "I'm leaving these (*&^%$#@ people", take a look at how it can still be beneficial.

Try using the want ads on this forum. They are free (THANK YOU, HOST!).

Jon.
