I went thru 4 repop or rebuilt windshield wiper motors (painted grey) from Auto Zone just after I bought my 66 GTO in July of 2007. Every one of them smoked as soon as I tried them. Returned every one of them and got my money back. Then bought 1 from NAPA that worked as it should right off the shelf and painted the correct black. Even the windshield washer unit on it worked.
