To each their own. Of course the 5th gen is a better car - the platform is nearly 20 years newer and it's a completely different car in every way. Undoubtedly more powerful, solid and reliable. Compare any car from the 90's to one from the 2010s and I think you'd find the same.
However, if we all based our purchases purely on quality and reliability, I'd have never bought my GTO
