In terms of evolution in the Midget world the Iron duke is closer to a 302 chevy IMO. After the success of the SD program the next step was to go back to the old SESCO concept.

The good aspects of the SD were made into a block that would accept the sprint car heads of the time. The basic configuration has stayed the same since with more and more NASCAR influence in the package. Other manufactures have got in the game.
