My 400 has been a pretty good combo and took years of abuse. My best all motor pass was 12.50. This setup consistently ran anywhere from 12.6 to 12.9 depending on heat, humidity, and motor temp. The cars best 60’ time is 1.64 but I’ve been unable to duplicate that and it usually runs anywhere from mid 1.7’s to 1.9 range. I need to work on this area. This motor liked to rev to 6000 rpm. The car is a ’69 Firebird 400 and race weight is 3800 pounds.

Engine Modifications:
'69 400 2 bolt block bored .030
Deck height set to zero
#62 Iron heads, minor bowl blend – milled about .015 - no flow numbers.
Stock 10/10 crank
Eagle H-beam rods with ARP fasteners
Forged TRW pistons
Crower 60211 cam/lifter set
Crower 1.6:1 roller rockers
Mallory Hyfire IV
Mallory Mechanical magnetic distributor
Edelbrock Performer RPM Intake, top 1” milled out of plenum divider
825 CFM Mighty Demon

Transmission:
’69 Muncie has been upgraded with Super Case, Iron Mid plate, M22 wide ratio gears
McLeod SFI Aluminum Flywheel
11” clutch

Rearend:
Dana 60 with 4.10 gears and 35 spline Strange axles and Aerospace disc brakes

Suspension
Multi-leaf rear springs
QA-1 Drag Race coil over shocks/springs up front
CE adjustable drag shocks in back
1 1/8” sway bar up front
Cal-trac’s

A new configuration is in progress and the changes are:

Motor bored .030 – dingle berry hone to remove glaze (bores are good)
#62 Iron heads – owner ported using Jim Hand method and Pete McArthy video.
275 / 188 cfm @ 500 lift on intake / exhaust, respectively
New Manley valves
Probe SRS Pistons with Mahle rings
* Converting to Solid flat tappet cam – not selected yet

I’ll post final configuration changes and results once I get them.
