I call it binary driving. Pedals must be perceived as switches by some, as the concept of proportional control seems to get lost.
My father (loved him anyway) was legendary for maintaining constant highway speed by tapping the gas pedal on and off. My sons avoided his car like the plague when we were all traveling together.
Similar to Greg, I now expect anyone behind me to jump into an adjacent lane as I decelerate and creep up to a red light. We both get there, I just don't see the benefit of getting to the light faster if it ends in hard braking. I'm sure I get viewed as a sluggish old fart with no respect for their stressful rush, some of which is true.
