Depending on the throttle opening set-up, you can have whatever the engine wants and still run low ets.
Just an example:
Bill Klausing had a Tri-Power set-up with 3 Holley 650 cfm 2-BBL carbs.
Did not want to change carbs. We restricted the airflow thru the carbs by
not opening the end carbs completely and the car went quicker.
