Obviously the larger tanks were made with those dimples to fit over the existing rear strap anchors rather than requiring redesigned trunk floor braces.
One thing I noticed in the Pontiac MPC is that there's no capacity shown with the '70 EES tank part number. Perhaps it was those cars that only received the 26 gal tanks? I know the '70 GP pictured above with the larger tank was equipped with CA emissions so that fits.
That pretty much sounds like how the '71-'72 GP straps mount.
For sure, nice to have those extra gallons in the tank.
