Is the insulation on the firewall jute padding, what is meant by "formed vinyl coated" insulation?
There are two different aftermaket supplier versions of the firewall insulation pad.

-The least expensive has been out for a long time. Maybe REM is the supplier/ cant remember. What many "builders" buy, as its cheap.
-The more expensive molded reproduction was in the $160 cost range (have ordered one before), now close to $230. This more expensive vinyl coated firewall pad is not correct appearance wise either.
-On an original, the molded rubber sheet has a texture to it. The original '70-72 A-body firewall pads I have carefully removed to reinstall, there is a raised "pimple" type texture face to the molded pad. Def noticeable once the inner heater box, fusebox, & complete dash are installed.

Just throw the latter out as there are those of us that are beyond anal & this is an interior detail that is noted in Concours judging @ Nationals & @ MCACN.
