Easy way to verify of the car has a clear coat is to use some fine 1000-2000 grit sandpaper and lightly sand a very small unseen area, if the dust is white'ish its clear coat, if its red theres no clear.
Wet sanding and buffing will make single stage look glossier, have heard of guys using clear over single stage too but probably not a good idea.
