One of my fellow Pontiac bracket racers had the same thing happen to the 9.3 in his car at the track, blew that nose right off the pumpkin. It was the only catastrophic rear end failure amongst our group aside from a few 12-bolts with broken spiders and one 8.5 in a Firebird that spun the center section upward when the axle tube rosette welds gave up.

If the 9.3 design was superior then all the drag racers would be running one or an aftermarket version of the 9.3 instead of the mainstay 9” Ford.
