The reason thrown around that I avoid them in a street car, and we've talked about this before., I know Steve and I have had conversations on it and I think he talked to a cam company or two, is because the bushings don't do a good job of holding oil after shut down. So for cars that sit for periods of time the cold starts have the potential to be dry bushings, while needle bearings have a tendency to hold oil.
After those conversations I started wondering if that had something to do with oems still using needle bearing setups.
I don't know if any of that holds merit but it was an interesting discussion and maybe worth bring up again.
