well since this thread is almost over(maybe) i will add a few things not said ,,it was smokey yunick that once said( in his power secrets book IIRC) they once put a plexiglass plate and a light inside on a SBC revved it up to 5k and watched the timing chain , the slack side was jumping around like a snake on fire..he also said the gear drive w dual idlers was no good..as to the roller timing chains , their are 2 ways to make the part that really rolls , the chepos take a flat piece of steel put it into a forming machine to make it round,,obviously these chains are junk,,the good chains take bar stock, drill a hole in center and ream to size, only buy these style chains, check out your roller chain an look for a seam on the roller part ,if found do NOT install !!!
