For the 1966 Tri-Power.
Both, Automatic and Manual transmission Tri-Power GTO’s were available in California.
The manual trans cars “sold new” in Ca. received the (616), A.I.R.
The automatic trans cars “sold new” in Ca. only received the (614), special air cleaners.
The key word “most” in the description shown in the 1966 Tempest Chassis shop manual.
Most, meaning 326 and 389 (manual and automatic) received the complete Smog equipment.
The ”Tri-Power Automatic” did not for all 50 states.
The one in my signature below is an example. Built and “sold new” in California.
I have never seen a specific document stating the reasoning behind this, but I assume it’s because the Automatic with the 3x2’s burned more efficiently than the Manual trans cars, therefore did not need the exhaust gases treated.
Two samples below showing the YR (Tri-Power with Automatic) with code 614.
Both cars were “sold new” in Ca.
Chris.
