May be nothing wrong with the one you've got. It only grounds to turn the light on after the engine over heats. Don't know what temperature that is.
You'ld hope the light would come on before steam starts coming out from under the hood......but that's not usually how it works.
Haven't tried it, but you could probably test one of the sending units for lights with a small kitchen torch, your multi meter and an infared thermometer.
Need to try looking that up. Exactly what temp do those units go to ground.
FWIW that's why I like gauges
