Pul, no offense meant. I couldn't tell if the carb was a 2 or 4 in your first photos.... looked like a 2bbl to me.
In my mind you have a exceptional 66 GTO even with the few little problems it has. But I know you'll put it right... they way you want. It's your so fix it up and drive it the way you want.
