Before involving yourself with the sending unit you may want to invest in a Infrared Temperature Gun. You can get a decent one for around $50.00. They have a mutitude of uses. Rich

My 400 ran 235 and clinmbing at idle or on the road. When I turned it off she would boil over. For whats it's worth I did the following: Back flushed the engine twice,added 50/50mixture...
