No. It won`t move with no power. The sender varies the ground with power applied to the gage. You can ground the tan wire on top of the sender. With the key on, the gage should go to empty.

Check you sender ground 1`st. Black wire that bolts to the car underside somewhere.

Total ground = empty.
NO ground = full, to past full.

I would have left it alone if it was mine. Low miles, numbers matching `79 SE, W72, WS6. What`s that car`s production? Maybe 1700 or so?

The `79 400 didn`t. But, it had a larger cam.

My `71 T37 was 3660 a while back. With me in it. Iron heads, aluminum intake with headers. A/C compressor gone but, had the rest of the system.


455, t400, 12 bolt. Full interior.
