For a "drive home" I'd disconnect the heater...

For a "drive home" I'd disconnect the heater lines at the timing cover and put in a bypass hose. Then you could deal with a better fix at home.

Comment about the timing "problem". I would run away very fast from any shop who didn't know to turn the crankshaft 360 degrees to "fix" the 12 o'clock vs. 6 o'clock problem.
