I had a 455 built... and they heated the crap out...

I had a 455 built... and they heated the crap out of the little rod end. There was serious discoloration. The engine went south quickly (other reasons) and the next builder couldn't get them off...

I recommend that you get it running, clean it up and go from there. Unless you have some motors lying around or want to drop a bunch of coin, I don't think you'll see a huge value or performance...

You could look in the hole and see what the cam looks like. It could also depend on how smooth/new/old your stock gear was. If it's not chewing up your composite gear, that's a good sign.

Hobart and Miller seem to have some decent dual voltage welders. That provides a lot of flexibility. 110 in a pinch, real voltage if you have the right plug.
