I totally concur with the 400/455 sentiment from Mister Pontiac and BVZ if you have to rebuild the original 350 anyway. You might as well invest the same $$$ into a bigger engine, which will not hurt...

Yes, just replace with the proper studded bolt. Your newer engine appears to have been rebuilt, or at least the heads were removed for some reason and they installed a non-stud bolt in that location....

I believe the HD M-13 3-speed first gear ratio was 2.42, so better than the 2.20 first gear of an M-22 behind the 455HO engine.

That's correct! I wish they had checked off the M-22 4-speed trans instead of the air conditioning, but it was ordered in Del Rio, TX, so pretty hot in the summers. I'm not sure if they understood...
