A few thoughts,
A 4L80E DOES have engine braking in stock form.

I wouldn't suggest blocking the accumulator. It will help the problem, but won't fix it.

Limiting clutch pack clearance by installing an extra steel isn't "all" of the solution.
If you look...

A stiffer 1-2 accumulator spring will make the 1-2 shift slightly firmer (on a stock auto shift type setup) because it acts in conjunction with accumulator oil to make the 1-2 accum piston harder to...

You will create a pretty good sized leak in the reverse circuit by doing that unless you plug the feed to the boost valve in the plate, case, or pump.

It will definitely reduce reverse pressure.

You can easily have a TH400 auto-shift and live at that power level.

Nothing fancy required. The B&M plate is even OK as long as it doesn't have the feed holes drilled too big.

Drill the 1-2...

We build quite a few TH400's and ALOT of 4L80Es and haven't seen any sprag issues.

I believe the 34 element sprag is still made in the US as well, there may be some made offshore but the SPX sprag...

If it's early on all shifts it is likely related to the TV system. The governor, unless it loses the spring, sticks (unlikely on a 200) or the cover is loose (higher rpm shifts) it will not change.

No such thing as a new converter unless you find a NOS one. All of them are remanufactured, even if you go to the GM dealer counter and buy one for a late model vehicle.
