OK, I ended up going with a 1/4" mid plate, got it all fabbed up and it fits great. The only thing that concerns me now are the alignment dowels, they are only 1/4" long before they start to taper...

So it was black with texture in lieu of wood grain? The only ones I have seen are wood grain. I would kill for one of those for my 67 Tempest drag car, already have the radio delete in black texture.
