The locking knobs of around '69 up through the 80s were just crimped over the lock cylinder on the backside. Being made of zinc (potmetal) they sometimes crack over the years.

We routinely bake via infrared to 140 degrees for 40 minutes. The outer panels absorb the heat, not the atmosphere, so I would say that the risk of heat transmission is relatively low.
