The lean pop is definitely a backfire. I pulled the valve covers, checked the valvetrain and everything looks normal. There don't appear to be any flat lobes or collapsed lifters.

Pulled the carb and everything seems fine, but we cleaned it up and reassembled. Later this week I will check the valve springs and rotate the motor around to see how things look.
