you have the two circuits right there in front of you, just trace them out, (not to be funny or rude) I had a 71 Lemans that I put the rally gauges in and I had to change a couple wires around but...

No the Tach signal does not go to the negative side of the coil. Like was stated before the signal from the terminal will be a on/off signal that the module does. this signal gives the tach a count...

it is a 75 400 produced in the mid year: F 28 5 is June 28 of 1975 probably for a early 76 Car. Block numbers are 500557 not 500887 and would be a 75-76 casting 400.
