I figured it out must be dried grease. cleaned...

I figured it out must be dried grease. cleaned it out. Will sand blast housing next week.

I was able to get the washer off in tact. underneath the cavity is filled with material, is it some kind of packing? does it need to be removed?

got it. you really cant see that clip until you take it off. Does the felt washer need to be replaced if its soaked with oil?

64 distributor disassembly

Does the upper bushing have to come out to remove the points/vacuum advance plate. I have the shaft out and the screws out of the plate and it spins freely but it doesn't want to come off.
