I think Joe typoed that......

The numbers read LEFT to RIGHT, just like everything in the English language.

Here is a pic of a '64' head.

Correct. The typo got by me. I even re-read it twice before I posted it.......

In the example given, the production date would be April 1st 1971.

But I'm pretty sure that all the 9799140 blocks were cast in 1970. Thus the freudian slip.

Sorry.

Date code is back near the distributor close to the big '70'.

First letter is month cast (A = Jan, B=Feb, etc.)
Next to digits are day of the month. (01-31).
Last digit is year. 9 = 1969, 0 =...

FelPro sells a complete gasket set for the 265 engine.

FelPro #260-1122 is the part number. $89.79 plus shipping on Rockauto.

You'd get a bunch of gaskets you don't need, but you'd get the PermaTorque head gaskets.

EDIT: The head gaskets in...

We've had several 'new' caps that didn't work correctly.

When you took the cap off, did the hose immediately return to its' normal shape?

I remember hearing about that stuff

It's what they used in the 'Cash for Clunkers' program to destroy the engines. :(:(:(:(:(:(:(:(:(:(

If you're talking about the cornering lamp in the fender, it's NOT an 1895 bulb.

It's an 1195 bulb.

They're getting kinda hard to find at parts stores, but SHOULD be available at NAPA.

Factory original valves have a part number on them

Factory valves will normally have a GM part number on them.

Usually stamped on the stem, up near the retainer grooves.

If you disassemble a couple of yours, you will know if they're original.

The EUN wasn't on the PHS starting in either 1969 or 1970.

I think that they stopped putting the EUN on the billing sheets in 1968 or 1969.

We've seen three different STILL INSTALLED engine blocks with no VIN.........

First one was a 428/370hp in a 1969 Grand Prix that we bought from the original owner. It was rusted beyond belief and we parted it out. This was in about 1985 - before GPs became somewhat...

Double-check your positive battery terminal.

We had a 2000 Suburban a few years ago that had various electrical gremlins that came and went. Weird shifts, dashboard glitches, turn signal issues. It even threw some codes for knock sensors and...

If you look at the later factory setups, they all use pusher fans for AC cooling help

All of the factory stuff we've fooled around with (mostly 1990s Cadillacs and Chevrolet Suburbans and Silverado trucks) use PUSHER fans that turn on with MAX AC or at a specified temp for additional...

Thumbs up Excellent!

Congratulations on getting rid of that annoying squealing !

It's always nice when a project goes the way you planned.

I'm amazed that so many sources (like RockAuto) specify skinny 15/32" belts...

We tried blocking the air cleaner snorkel on our SD455 Trans Am using duct tape.

The logic behind that ill-fated decision was that the cooler air from the scoop versus the underhood heated air would be better for power.

100% wrong!

Took it out to play at the LVMS dragstrip....

Belt width makes a huge difference.

You alternator belt is a 15/32" wide belt, which is what the factory originally used.

The power steering belt needs to be a 17/32" wide belt or it will ride on the bottom of the pulleys rather...

Rather than turn the pin down.....

Why not just open up the cable end to 1/4" instead?

Seems like it would be easier and it would keep any surface hardness on the pin intact.

Just a thought.
