I have been doing this a long time. I do not have a bunch of micrometers. Just a 0" to 1" and a 3" micrometer and rarely use them.
No dial bore gauge either, but I will get one to check used bores....

Not sure what you mean. I had a 455 that had 165lbs cranking pressure that would run past that thing.
I am sure you can run 9.75 CR on a 455 with iron heads and get away with it.

And you do not have to adjust them all the time if you have good equipment.

Never had any heat issue with mounts. Everything I have ever heard about header wrap is to stay away from it. Unless you like rusted headers.

Run the 6X-4 heads. Just get the CR to 9.25 and you will be fine. A little insurance does not hurt. And the difference in power in 9.75 is not worth it IMO. Long time iron head pump gas guy here....

So I have .006 piston to wall and around .023 end gap.

Yes, filling them to the bottom of the water pump holes.
If you do it, get it done before you hone the block and its best to let it cure with a head-tq plate torqued down.

It ended up cracking main bulkheads, all of them.

Not sure what stroke has to do with oiling.
Now a long stroke engine will pull a very hard carb signal.
