I have been doing this a long time. I do not have a bunch of micrometers. Just a 0" to 1" and a 3" micrometer and rarely use them.
No dial bore gauge either, but I will get one to check used bores....

I am sure you can run 9.75 CR on a 455 with iron heads and get away with it.

And you do not have to adjust them all the time if you have good equipment.

Run the 6X-4 heads. Just get the CR to 9.25 and you will be fine. A little insurance does not hurt. And the difference in power in 9.75 is not worth it IMO. Long time iron head pump gas guy here....

Yes, both Ross say to add .002 piston to wall, and Total Seal said to add .002 ring gap.
So I have .006 piston to wall and around .023 end gap.
Thing is, Dan said I might hear the pistons before it...
