Presuming here you have ruled out retarded timing and a stuck heat riser...

They sell conversion kits but I pulled hardware...

They sell conversion kits but I pulled hardware off a '64.
Never got around to installing it but the one external mod needed is to create a slot so as to back off the self adjuster when needed.
