Door closed, dome light can back feed through courtesy lights when the courtesy light fuse is blown.

The shared ground makes it tricky

If it's engine oil it's not happening on drain...

If it's engine oil it's not happening on drain back.

That engine should have oil pressure in the heads for rocker stud oiling instead of pushrod oiling.

Had a 350 Pontiac back in the 70's...

Try wiggling the turn signal lever with left turn on. If you get a flicker out of right brake the turn signal switch needs some TLC or replaced.

Food for thought

Drivers side goes out the front and through the radiator to be cooled.

Drinkers side recirculates back to the water pump and doesn't get cooled.

If your car has a single wire from the bulkhead connector to coil (+), that would tell us the resistor wire on your car is under the dash, not under the hood.

Think the tech guy you talked to is...

Pretty sure this car has IGN-1/resistance wire and IGN-2/(the yellow crank wire) under the dash. With a single wire from bulkhead connector to coil (+).

IGN-1 and IGN-2 both come off the ignition...

That resistor wire should never have seen enough current to have a melt down.

It's the excite wire to terminal 0ne in the voltage regulator.
