i have a 1972 formula with a 4 spd tranny .I am trying to get my reverse light's to work ,would this be the correct connector

I think that's the downshift connector? (which you don't use)

Look for a pink with black stripe and a lt. green connector.

back-up light not working?

yes not working. there is a post i started in the "parts wanted" discussing this topic

You might try and find the directional signal flasher. The wire connects to that wire I believe. (pink with black stripe) Maybe the previous owner cut it off if they went to the manual tranny?
Might look for the wires without a connector on them?

Because your car is a 4spd car, it is not a downshift switch, however, that same switch is used in 72 only to operate the shaker flapper door. If you connect the terminals together, your shaker door single wire should have 12v. That should attach to the gas pedal switch. Do you have a switch above your gas pedal? If not, you need to get one.

Forgot that part, sorry. That is an unused connector in your model.

following...same issue

johnta1 01-30-2024 03:18 PM

Shouldn't matter. the switch just completes the circuit.

:)

just plugged it in ,turned key on .no lights .does the engine need to be running .does that switch connect to something in the column. not sure what the p.o did
sorry for all these questions got a few days off and got nothing to do lol

johnta1 01-30-2024 04:07 PM

Engine does not need to be running.
Probably the collar on the steering column is in the wrong position if the column rods are not on (connections on the tranny and column).
Needs to be in Reverse.

Check for 12 volts on one of the wires. (to ground)

Since your car " Was" an automatic. That connector " might" have been plugged into a switch on the gas pedal bracket. You don't have the bracket, or switch, so just tuck up under dash.. your reverse connector is on the steering column, combined with neutral safety most likely

necdb3 01-31-2024 08:55 AM

I never realized that this "was" an automatic car. So it still "should have the downshift switch, although it would be rendered inoperative since the auto trans was removed.

The reverse lights are not that circuit regardless. The reverse light circuit is a 2 pin connector with a pink/blk stripe and a green wire in the harness close to the take off to the downshift wires. The connector is located on top of the column very close to the firewall. The switch is visible looking in that location. If you simply use a jumper to connect those 2 wires together, the reverse lights should work with the key on.

Because the trans has been now switched to a 4spd. The proper reverse linkage must be acquired to spin the column to activate the switch.
