Scored a Y88!

I've been hunting for 4 or 5 years for an essentially done/straight Y88. I've loved the gold TA's before I even knew they were special editions. Did my homework on Hitman's site and consumed all info.
Found it in Clearwater, FL from a private seller who really wasn't into it. He scored it from the previous owner who lost heart after a negative body/paint experience. Paint has some minor issues but owner at the time spent a lot of $ and became frustrated trying to get the car back. Trapped in the shop for two years as I understand it. Made the deal and gambled on the 1300 drive. She ate about 4 quarts of oil, but other than that she was solid. Gauges all worked or I woudn't have risked it. Came with some spare parts that I'll post. Has the original gold rims but no room in the car for the drive and didn't want to jack the interior up. I'll get those another day. Very pleased! Now to sort out all the little things. |
Wow 4-speed and I love the snow flake wheels great looking car

W72, WS6, AC, power locks and windows. Appears to be original drivetrain. Ordered without the radio. It wasn't for sale when I joined the FB Y88 group and threw a post out there about my interest in buying a solid car. The guy I ended up buying from reached out to me. Was over 9 months before we made the deal. He didn't have it on the market for sale but was motivated to move it. I win. Big risk driving it 1300 miles but it paid off! Motor leaks a tad and eats some oil. Need to sort out the little stuff but I did well and am very pleased. My brother's in-laws aren't far from the seller and they visit often so I'll get those rims. |
Congratulations.

im glad to hear you drove it home. back all thru the 80's and early 90's i flew all over the country and would buy an old car and drive them home. definately had stories to tell about the adventures. some good some bad. my longest drive was 2500 miles. i think it really connects you to the car when you do a long haul.

Congrats on the new car! Great find, shows that patience and educating yourself def. paid off. 1300 mile ride is nothing to scoff at in a 'new' almost 50yr old car. Mine has been rebuilt completely and I am afraid to drive that far, LOL.
I know of a couple of people that have been through 'paint jail' and lost all interest in their vehicle. Their loss is your gain!! |
Hope you didn't consume too much of Hitman's propaganda, it's laced with bull****t.
A/C hose set is by Old Air. |
Cool car! Enjoy!

nice car - I wish my 74 made it home on my epic quest - always a gamble - but I'm glad yers did...congrats!
|
Congrats on the score and a successful journey! I always think the smartest way to buy an old car is to have cash in hand and wait for the right car at the right price. (I did not, for the record). Well done.

Congrats, she’s a looker!
