Wilwood braided front line length
Hi all,
Has anyone had issues with using Wilwood braided front brake lines? They specify 16" as bring the recommended length for stock replacement and various caliper replacements, yet the stock hoses are closer to 14". This means they are extra loopy with excess, more so if car sits lower. It nearly requires larger diameter rims just for hose clearance! I also had the Russell braided set years ago, never installed but had an issue as well and resold. I think they were far shorter from memory. Has anyone used that kit, perhaps 692030, and had dramas, or maybe was fine? And since on topic, a good brand that sells a single braided rear hose to replace stock? I haven't looked properly yet. I see Firebird Central has some, no brand listed. Only because currently putting a list together, although a 6 week wait to finish a brake install is quite a drag. |
Just saw a review in another forum saying the Russell kit had a non-standard banjo fitting and were much shorter than stock. That's where i must have compared and thought nope. Naturally, they cover many applications, and probably only suitable for a couple of them properly.

I can measure this weekend. I made custom on the 78 and don't remember on the 81 if I used Russel or Earls. Earls has a rear with the T made into it for the hard lines.

Thanks, all good, more conversation than anything. Just in case anyone used the Wilwood hoses, would think they were common with those who upgrade brakes.

I use the Wilwood hoses (by application[71 T/A])with Wilwood calipers and mine fit and routed perfectly.

Thanks, do you know the length or part number? Looks like I've been screwed over on these, and because they were super expensive and took a month to arrive based solely on their recommendation. I had no reason to question that until compared to what's on the car and in my hand.
I've tried to recreate the same search on their website but the page has changed somewhat. It either comes up as all 4 lengths, or the same length I have only. The other annoying thing being that I knew stock was roughly 14" based on previous issues with the shorter Russell set, but again, you go off what they recommend since not familiar with their product or calipers. |
Worked out after fitting a 15" rim and a 17" rim with 245/255 tyres that the 16" does clear both and not touch during turning, but ideally could be shorter so I have the correct 14" set on the way.

14" on one but as AN on each end. The other premade looks maybe 14.5 but wheel was on so hard to tell could have been 14" also/

Thanks for that.
