16v battery

What are the Pro's and Con's of running a 16v battery. Can everything run off of it like electric water pump, tach, trans break, air shifter, I run an external coil Mag or will it screw everything up because of the higher voltage. Your help is greatly appreciated. Thanks Rusty

Do you run a Alternator?

By the way, I love that you gave been running a 4 cylinder for ages now!

Steve25 No I don't run an alternator. Yes I have been running a 4 cyl for 48 years this year. Too old and dumb to stop lol

16v is what I have run for a long time -- everything is happy , water pump spins faster, fan faster , for power out of coil, cranks over faster -- ect ect. I also run a 16 volt 100 amp alt. as my fuel injection takes a lot of juice -- esp the fuel pump. only issue i ever had was with a Radiator fan -- guess the 18 plus from the alt was to much.

The pros are what cgiese stated. I did burn up 2 CSR water pumps in 2 weeks after I switched even though they assured me the would be fine. I now have a 16v battery with a 12v tap that I run my water pump with. Everythig else runs on 16v and is happy. The cons are if your battery charger takes a crap at the track and no one has a spare for you to use. I did find that if I charge the battery with a 12v charger on the 12 v post it will charge the whole battery. I'm not sure if that's a good idea but it got me through the weekend. The other problem is finding a good 16v battery charger. the only ones I have used are a couple different XS battery chargers. I can get them to last about 2 years before they take a crap with the last one only lasting just over a year. I have 5 dead ones I need to send back to be fixed. They told me it be roughly $100 each to fix plus shipping. I've ordered another brand that's made here in the USA that has a 3 year warranty. Hopefully it last a lot longer than the XS stuff and is more reliable.

The XS stuff has been redesigned -- and a lot of the older stuff cant be rebuilt now because of parts issues. But just in case -- I got the 60 amp charger -- and a 30 amp for back up --
