my 70 GTO finally headed to the body shop next week
Stopped in last night to see hes putting the final touches on a 67 nova he just did which looks good. My car is in my sig,,,originally mint turqoise with 69 judge stripe. I told him I dont mind that color but if i was on the lot in 1970 looking,,,I would of picked a starlight black one. He told me if thats what I want he'll do it. All this time I had my mind made up that it was going back to mint t but he got me thinking. I dont on ever selling the car but I kind of want to do it justice and put it back to original. Hes probably not paint it til next spring,,2 full nos 1/4s to put on,etc. and he does it in his spare time as body work is not his full time job. DEcisions........

scott70 - I love Mint Turquoise, and with the D98 b/r/w stripe...I wouldn't change it.

I will post some pics as time goes on and the car starts to get stripped down and built back up. Im sure I will put it back to mint T.,,,,,Just got a pic in my head of starlight black with 69 judge stripes and fenderwell trim. I think that would be one slick looking combo which then got me thinking.. I believe there was only like 700ish 70 gtos painted mint T.(2nd rarest color) I see GM had the exact same color on chevelles, olds, etc. ,,,,just a different name for the color.

Hey Scott I like your original color. I just wish there was a pic some where that shows mint turquoise with saddle interior. I am changing the color on my gto in a month and I also have saddle interior.

Im also looking for the window fuzzies or sweeps or whatever they call them, The rubber is cracked on mine and they all need replacement, Who has the best quality and best fitting? I noticed theres a few vendors that offer them. Actually Im going to get all new weatherstrip for the whole car.

Someone posted a judge in that color with red interior and it looked awesome

I ordered a weatherstrip kit from OPG,,,soffseal stuff,,,ive used that product before and was happy with it. They offer 2 grades of window fuzzies,,,i went with the better grade. The car is going to his shop tonight so the work begins!,,,,,and the money goes. Ill spend more in paint supplies alone than what I bought the car for,,,,lol. Paid 1500.00 or 1700.00...i forget,,, back in 1986. Had a local bodyshop paint it cardinal red back in the summer of 86' for the large sum of 250.00 and it still wears that paint today.

More pics. Was the manual flooboard hump welded in or screwed down from the factory? This one is screwed down and looks factory. Grease pencil marks look like 255 saddle and code 34 paint. Mint t. Floor boards are very good, just 2 spots that need a little help.

Didn't like finding this under the stainless trim.
|
Pretty sure that top plate is available as a repop, but not sure on fit/quality.
Did you find a bunch of pine needles between the trim and panel? . |
The body guy sent me the pic last night. He didnt say he found any debris but Im going over sunday to help start putting body bushings in so Ill ask him then. I did see OPG sells a complete cowl and also a out layer cowl.. He said he'll get the windshield out and see if theres more but he thinks he can patch it....cant see it anyways. I dont know how many companies stamp out that cowl but Ames doesnt offer a 70 year one from what I saw but it sounds like they did and it fit very poorly.
