I laugh out loud every time I see all those holes in the frame....seems so....barbaric....

(lol)

Now that you've had the opportunity to work on a couple cars: how is the consistency of placement of the holes from car to car? Does it look like they were fixtured in some way or did they just grab a hole saw and "go to town"?

Two questions

2 Attachment(s)
Why do some Catalina's have opposing wipers and some have colliding wipers? I would like to change my Safari to the same set up as this car has. See pics.
I've asked before, but what is the paint code for Frost Silver? Is it a '63 Cadillac color? Considering painting the Safari that color.

Thanks,
Rob...

Wiper setup depends on if they are single or 2 speed. My 60 has 2 speed wipers and they overlap.

Yes that's us here in O'fallon, il. 15 minutes from St louis. No one knows where O'Fallon is so we just say St. Louis so people have an idea of where we are.

I'd have to look again but I think they had a 10.5 inch clutch.

Based on the rail spacing I would say that all holes are identical. They may be a little off, but nothing the eye could catch on its own. Remind me before I put the body on and ill measure it for you.

Will keep you updated.

I think they had B&B pressure plate?Tom

ThorpesCorvettes 05-11-2013 08:08 PM

Could be, I'd have to look more into it. Haven't started touching the motor or trans yet.

Thanks for posting a link to my website. We are traditionally a Corvette resto shop, but have been lucky enough to work on some very rare pontiacs. Ill upload more as I go. Currently working on a 63 cat (Driver), 69 judge, and soon ill be posting about a new project. Going to combine a cat front onto a bonneville safari body. Should be interesting! Should be a good challenge! If you look at the link previously posted, youll see that the Union Park Pontiac was an altered wheelbase car which I restored to its original state without rebodying the car. So I'm hoping if I can do that then this should be a cake walk.
Always up for an old Pontiac project.

ThorpesCorvettes @ yahoo

Email me there and ill get you the paint codes.

I think out of the 14 only two were the "drabby" silver as I like to call it.

ive got the engine out of one of the frost silver cars. I always wanted to find the car.

Something that caught my eye: the master cylinder. Kudos for having the proper casting (with the wing-nut screw)...but it is painted black, which is in conflict with my research that they were delivered as-cast (thus a resto (with longevity-of-appearance in mind) would include either clear-coated or cast-grey painted M/C exterior).

Thoughts?

My Union Park car got a 400/400 and best of show @ The Pontiac Nationals.

I'll make it right.

Good eye.

Sometimes if we are mid resto we will replace nuts and bolts with others just to hold in place while we search for new parts or restore the other ones. This is definitely going to be a museum piece, everything will go back properly and accordingly.

Side note. I attended a talk by Jim Wangers at Pontac Heaven a short time ago. He was talking about the swiss cheese chassis cars. He said everyone of them bent their frames not too long after they started racing them and spent the rest of the year trying to get them to run straight. He also said they did not gain much weight loss for all the trouble it caused. He mentioned about 30 lbs was all. Mark L

warriors revenge 05-17-2013 12:11 PM

Beswick told me the same thing, and the amount of weight that he had to put back in the car to strengthen the frame was heavier than the metal that it saved....
