My high school car!

Found a pic of my car in high school! I still have it and my dad was the original owner! Its apart now and I have the body on a rottisery and the frame is ready for blasting. Sadly I just realized the dog is long gone. Or I could just believe there is a 37 year old Duke the Great Dane still running around some where!
Jim PS....Burgandy/Maroon (forget the official name) red interior, tri-power, 4-sp |
Your lucky to have the car, and the memories. All I have is the picture of mine.LOL
Good luck on the resto. |
Very Cool!
Thanks for posting a really cool old photo of your 65 and Duke! Are the license plate frames from the Original dealer when purchased new? Where was the 65 built? THX!
BTW, Great story by you about 8 long years ago on how you got this car. |
Very nice,,

60sstuff- yes, original dealer frame, Don Grothe, Salinas Ca.
455Grandville- yes, original black plate. Some pics of plate included! The shiny black one is from a set I had restored to see if I would like the guys work before I send him my GTO plates, it came out great! Jim The guy is Rod Pearman TagDr.com Not sure why he specializes in Ca. Black plates, he's in Georgia. |
Also, a "C" prefix black plate is an actual 1963 plate, usually seen on older cars. Most 1965 Cars in CA have an N,O, P, Q, or R prefix. The smaller the town, less dense the population, (like Salinas in the '60's) would have a DMV that had plates that were 2-3 years old being issued to new cars. We had a '64 Ford that had the plate "MXH-xxx". This is a newer plate than Jims, but the car was a Bay Area car (lot's of people)Had a friend who had a '67 Lemans and his plate was "ATL-xxx". The car was from some place like Modoc county, which has a very low population, so it was issued the plates that they had sitting around: 4 year old plates. Just some trivia.........

Jeff, thanks for sharing that interesting information on the Black/Yellow California plates. My 66 was sold new on 1-22-66 in Livermore, Ca. and still wears it's original plates. |
Chris, I figured maybe 2 or 3 people on this forum would actually be interested in this arcane stuff....glad to post. Funny, the plates on my Fremont built '65 are still on the car and read "RXS 767". I bought it out of Hayward in '82. It was bought new in Spokane Washington, and the original owner moved to Los Gatos right away, because of the late '65 early '66 plate. I've had other '65's, and they were NKT 914 and NEA 256, etc. Earlier plates than the "R" issue. RXR 202 and RXS 767 are probably about a week apart in issue, and may have been stamped out on the same day!

VERY cool picture.

When I saw his plate began with a C, I thought there was no way he was right, for it being the original black plate...should start with at least an N.
Now it makes sense. |
our older plates in ny had county prefixes Tioga County had a TX -XXX Broome County could have BR-XXXX 1W-xxcx first ward 2W-XXXX 2nd ward
I have BR on my 64 Cat 2W on my 64 Rambler ( Broome County ) TX on my 69 fire bird ( Tioga County ) 3X on my 64 GTO which I belive is Deposit NY ( Delaware County ) GR on my 65 GTO ( Greene County ) http://www.bprlicenseplates.com/New%...ty%20codes.htm |
