71 GTO Heater Core
 

MY heater core in my 71 GTO w/AC is leaking coolant all over the floor under the heater box. I just ordered a new core from APE. Can anyone tell me how to replace this core? I have no idea where to start!

You need to remove the heater box, which is the big black thing under your dash by the passengers feet. A few of the bolts that hold it in place are actually on the firewall side, around the evap box on the firewall... To access them all, (I think) you need to remove the inner wheel well on the passenger side.

While you have it out, I'd suggest maybe replacing the blower motor as well.

p.s. - How do you drive that fast in Northern California? :-)

It's easy to drive that fast if Ca, the hard part is taking a picture while driving!

I just replaced a Heater core on a 69 GTO and there is no need to take out the inner fender or any major pieces - take out the 5 nuts on the heater box on the engine side and on the inside disconnect the cables and the box will come out - you can slip the new HC in and put it right back together - i took us - 2 guys about 2 hours to do it - and it was not as bad as i thought it was going to be. It does suck when it goes the amount of fluid on the inside of the car.
