Back in the 80's I took out the original am radio and put in a aftermarket which required some cutting. Currently I'm having the original am radio converted to modern guts. I have this old junky dash that has a good radio area. I'd like to cut out the massaged area on my original and cut out the good area on the donor dash and put it in without making a mess and really screwing up my original. Top picture is the original dash that is staying. . Was thinking gluing it back in. I think it would look best if I could switch over the whole rectangle part around the radio which would mean cutting right out to the engine turning on my original.

If your dash gets the dash swirl adhesive, it would cover your rework. I'd use JB Weld. I think they make it for plastic as well. Buy the normal stuff should hold well too.

I'm leaving the engine turning alone,,,was hoping to delicately do some cutting or grinding or whatever is best. Not sure if I should leave this to a professional. I'd like to have it so you wouldn't know a donor piece has been grafted in there. It looks like one wrong move and I'd be into the original engine turning and that would be hard to fix.

You may have already seen this, but if you used new engine turned decal then you could replace the whole piece.http://forums.maxperformanceinc.com/....php?p=6265770

This may help to make a strong repair. It’s been a Godsend for me in numerous plastic repairs.

Ames Part No. A274R @ $67. Lower Dash Repair Panel for a '69 that replaces both the left and right lower sections. You cut the lower chrome piece completely away and mount the repair panel in place held by the radio knobs and cigarette lighter bezel.

I used double face auto trim tape on mine also. It extends further towards the column than the original on my '71 but I didn't really care. All the holes match up. My upper dash was a near mint A/C piece with the radio carved out so I did the lower panel. I also cut out the A/C Panel and fitted the black non-A/C panel back in.

Here's what it looks like in my '71:

AMD repaired my totally destroyed radio section with a donor section. By the way NeighborsComplaint I love your signature!

If DIY, then i would suggest melting the good radio face piece to the good dash, then adhere a new turned-metal decal over the deal.

Thought I'd just try something. Took a file and cleaned up my dash of the left over radio surround. Cut out same section out of donor dash and fit the 2 together. Now I just got to jb weld the backside to hold it and finish out with the chrome pen. I only replaced inside the red lines.

Wow, nice job.

So got the original radio back from Gary tanway and also a front replacement 4x10 speaker . My gto originally had 1 speaker in the front and 1 in the back. Picking up a couple of new 6x9 for the back that mount exactly where the factory had them. So far I fixed the dash with part of the donor dash and mounted the front speaker and radio. Looks alot better than the hole in the dash and will hopefully sound decent. Not perfect so I say I'm going for a little patina.

I can't tell any difference. Looks like factory with a little 50 year old'Patina'

Anybody use 6x9 speakers under the rear package tray that they really like? I don't have any delusions that this system will sound like a surround sound bose system . I was looking at turnswitchs 6x9 coaxial. Since the speakers mount in the factory location the speakers can't have the tweeter part in the middle stick up past the mounting surface or they will hit the package tray.

Basically, any coax speaker will work.

I did a ton of homework on plastic repair when I was trying to make the Vintage Air stuff fit, since I wanted to retain the lap blower section.

Your seats look great, did you just recover the original foams?
