1970 Fremont GTO Build Sheet Radio Notation

Did 1970 GTOs built in Fremont have the radio type notated in any of the boxes (1-106)? It is notated in box 107 which is the option summary but was wondering if it has its own box or was notated elsewhere on the sheet.

Not sure, wish I could help, but curious where you found your Fremont build sheet?

Buck Wilde 12-23-2022 05:26 AM

Not 100% sure. The previous owner found it but based on the way it looks, I’d say it was on top of the gas tank or somewhere near sound deadener/insulation.

The invoice has a change alert noted and I’m trying to figure out the change and thought it might have been the radio. The build sheet has M-401 hand written on it and 401 is the sales code for an AM radio.

Does it show U63 for AM radio on the sheet?

Found my build sheet taped to the top of the gas tank. Box 107 shows U63 P/BIN Radio.

Yes U63 is notated in box 107. But I was wondering if it was anywhere else. For example, the tires are listed both in box 106 and 107.

Really trying to figure out what the change alert covered. I have both the PHS and the build sheet and they both match as far as I can tell. There is a hand written change on the sequence number and M-401 hand written in black marker in box 107. I wonder if both of those are because of the change alert?

Can you post a pic?

(cover the VIN if that makes you more comfortable in doing so).

Either a memo number or a sequence adjustment. RA4 with black call outs on hood. Not seeing anything else that's been crossed out to indicate a change. What is the second set of 6 digits on the trim tag and the ship date on the invoicing?

I don't have a '70 Fremont sheet, but I do have a '71 and '72 GMAD build sheet that look like yours. They do not have the radio called out in any of the other boxes.

I'm with HFR on this one: it looks like a Memo note of some kind, which were numbered sequentially. They were written by Bill Cumberworth in Pontiac and could define any kind of deviation from "build with Tempest hood" to "install aluminum fenders/swiss cheese frame" or "build with police springs". They were not kept and have never been located per Fred Simmonds so determining their meaning is virtually impossible at this point.

My opinion is that trying to assign any significance to the "401" portion would be a spurious association.

Car is in storage and I will have to check the body number in the next week or so but I think it was fairly low. Would that start with a BF? The ship date is 11/26/69.

So does the memo note possibly mean a non standard option or change? Also are they always associated with a change alert on the PHS invoice?

The sequence number was crossed out and changed.

You stated in another post that your car was built in October. Shipping in Nov. is showing something was up...

Buck Wilde 12-23-2022 09:47 PM

That’s right. So something held held up production for a little bit.
