Grudge race fun

I finally got the chance to go back to the track last Wednesday. It was the first time out since I changed from an Electric Maziere water pump back to a belt driven pump. I wasnt sure how much that would cost me in ET. And it was B@lls hot and humid...lol..The 1st hit was bad. I spun the tires bad, let out then back on it. I ran 7.07 @ 100 mph. As I let it cool down for another run i watched the other cars there. I saw a Tesla there running really good. I saw a couple 6.7-6.80 passes. @ 101 mph. As I made it back to the lanes, me in the right lane behind 2 other cars with nobody in the left ( right lane has a reputation for working better ) the Tesla pulled inot the left and waited for me. I knew he was gonna wait to run me. Sure enough he did. We lined up, he tree'd me a little but i was around him in 1st gear and pit about 2 cars on him. I went 7.58@104 he went 7.78 @ 101. After he gave me a thumbs up and waved. After a while I went for another pass and sure enough there he was again. Wanted to try it 1 more time. This time he left way early, but i still got around him before the end. My 7.58 @ 104.8 to his 7.88 @ 101. Both were rally fun races.
Next day I find out he has a Youtube channel where he post his video races " beating up" on Muscle cars both modern and classic. I'm waiting to see if he posts these.😁 He does have some neat videos.

Sounds like a great day.

What is your current combo?

PAUL K 08-15-2020 11:24 AM

Fantastic job! That last paragraph is the cherry on the sundae! :)

PONTIACPOWERTTF!!!

grandam1979 08-15-2020 11:54 AM

Are you spinning at the start seems like a lot of mph for a 7.5 pass?? And 7.8 at 101 seems like a lot of mph.

vertigto 08-15-2020 12:00 PM

So...excuse my ignorance, but what are you driving?

firechicken 08-15-2020 12:09 PM

Those sevens should be sixes.
I sense a typo there...

grandam1979 08-15-2020 01:08 PM

That’s what I was thinking .

Dang! And i even proof read it. Yes the 7s are all 6s except my first pass. .oops.
So the 1st race was 6.58 @ 104. Vs 6.78 @ 101
2nd was 6.58 @ 104.8 vs 6.88 @ 101

I agree!! I saw he had a go pro on the roof. A friend told me about his Y.Tube channel and I laughed. He came looking for me I'm sure because he saw my first pass where I spun. Figured he had something for me

firechicken 08-15-2020 02:58 PM

Was the gopro facing forward so he could get a good shot of your taillights?

Scott Stoneburg 08-15-2020 03:29 PM

Looks like he has one camera facing forward and one to the rear.

Hope that link works.

Cool video!

At least you were the majority of the 'other'.

:D

That did it! I'm going to install a "Cheetah Stance" in my car and make a road trip :D

If he wasn't a tool he would've typed "left early on Firebird and still got driven around"!

Again great jib!

Dragncar 08-15-2020 05:27 PM

Old school gasoline engines with big cams are cool, especially PONTIACS !
Electric motor cars with big heavy batteries giving them traction are lame. Might be the future, but lame. Those knobs just think they are cool.
Nice job Scott, had something for that Tesla it seems.
Chalk another one up for PONTIAC.

vertigto 08-15-2020 06:37 PM

Nice job!!

dragracerx2813 08-15-2020 08:27 PM

I hate electric car. Good job gaping him!

Baron Von Zeppelin 08-15-2020 10:11 PM

Can give the Tesla guy some credit for at least trying to pick on someone his own size/speed.
Versus only going after 8 or 9 second cars.
Even though your original 7.07 probably mislead him to thinking you were the next kill sticker going on his battery charger.

Thanks for pulling his plug and draining his batteries :D

Fking Tesla was fast though

It is fast, and he is honest enough to post his losing videos too. 👍

Half-Inch Stud 08-16-2020 09:23 AM

Great variety there. Re-inforces my bias that Pontiacs accelerate very well under load.

The Hellcat seemed slow huh.

4.25 stroke or 4.375?

OCMDGTO 08-16-2020 12:17 PM

Great looking and running car Scott!

Nice little video to watch, thanks for posting it.

You have a good looking first gen there Scott, good job driving around the Tesla.

This makes me want to get my junk running, hopefully I will Sometime soon.

Tesla Plaid Channel 09-13-2020 06:01 PM

Generally speaking, I post every race video from every race night.

Thanks for the races Scott, good fun!

Thanks for noticing. I seek out cars running in the 6-s and faster. Most cars I race are on slicks, and many come in on trailers.
Have raced several Hellcat Redeyes on Slicks (797HP), haven’t lost to one yet.
I was a gear head first, many muscle cars; this just happens to be the fun car of the moment.

Tesla Plaid Channel 09-13-2020 06:24 PM

Rematch, sorry for red lighting! (again!)

Sorry for red lighting on you again Scott! I know just how fast your Firebird is, so I cut it too close at the tree. (-0.007 this time)
A real shame too, since our ETs were so very close. That’s 3 wins for you, zero for the Tesla!

(Last run of the night)

Looking forward to running again some time-

I can’t say I am a fan of the Teslas. But your videos are pretty cool.

I'm sure it's lots of fun at the track running the Tesla against those cars.
It's "shocking;)" to me how fast it goes.

Have you ever found a Demon Challenger to race ?
Have you ever raced another Tesla ?
Is yours optimized for competition - weight reduction, etc ...

...and thanks for letting Stoneburg outrun you - we needed that. :D

johnta1 09-13-2020 07:03 PM

Welcome to PY, Tesla Plaid Channel!

I think the Tesla is cool, it would be something I would do since I hate being like 95% of the others.

:)

No worries with the red light. I had a great time. Looking forward to our next match. I'd like to make it to the 1/4 mile track to do it too.

Welcome to the Board Tesla!

Sounds good! Bradenton has Test N Tune on Thursdays, I’m out there a couple times each month. Best ET so far is a 10.4 @ 125 with battery preheat, but usually 10.6s with no prep whatsoever.

I haven’t come across a Demon yet, but have raced many modified Hellcats with > 800HP (according to their owners). One runs 6.3s in the 1/8 (@113MPH!), but the Tesla has beat it 3 times now, due to either his unreliable traction or reaction times. See our closest run, it’s #3 in this one: https://youtu.be/Bbkp3eVCsY0

I’ve raced all other Tesla models, and none have laid down a better ET yet. I usually give them “the hit” to make it interesting, and a virtually identical 2020 Model S edged me out after I gave him the move. He was still a couple tenths slower, entirely due to his 21” wheels. (Mine has 19’s for this very reason.) You can find races against the S and X on my channel. Here’s an article written about a recent race I had with the fastest Model 3: https://www.autoevolution.com/news/t...ce-145381.html

No mods. I’ve tried other tires but the stock Michelins 4S have been fastest. I keep it empty and I rarely use the launch mode.

Scott Stoneburg 09-13-2020 09:13 PM

I have subscribed to the YouTube channel I enjoy watching all the races.
