Tesla Cybertruck puts Porsche 911 on the trailer ... literally

I found this pretty amusing, the latest from jab at the auto industry by Elon Musk. Only from the mind of Musk.

Sub 11 second pass, with a trailer behind it?
Yeah, NO. I'm going to assume trap speed is
~120mph, and... a trailer.

Professional driver on a closed course, do not attempt this at home

Who cares about 1/4 in a electric car really.
Geeks that buy these sure don't.
Unless you have a severe Napoleon complex.lol
That thing weights over 8,000 lbs.
Wait tell that lights up.

I agree and how is that thing a truck. It's like jet funny cars...fun to watch but not practical / traditional. They have their short comings.

Watched drag and pull videos. My grandson, (7-years old), picked the Tesla Truck as the clear winner before any test was run! He got absolutely giddy after watching the Tesla win both set-ups. Musk has found his target market. Would have been interesting to see sled pull test run back to back 5 times. My experience with the PD 90's with ludicrous mode is when run at max capacity, they overheat rather quickly and reduce power dramatically to save the battery. I bet by the 5th pull, the Tesla Truck would be in last place among those gas and diesel trucks. It is an interesting toy though.

That's why we are doomed.lol

The Big Lie

660 feet. 1/8th mile. 200 meters.

Maybe on back to back runs. truck ran 11.3 with the battery in the 30s % charge and
The Cybertruck uses the gen 2 4680 cells which are supposed to be better at not overheating in high charge and discharge uses. It weighs over a ton "less" than the Hummer electric

For heavy towing any distance give me a diesel.

Tesla gave up on fifth wheel and gooseneck towing as well which Is a common job for trucks that get worked.

Those high rear sail panels would seem to preclude it. Then again most truck owners in the city never go off road or tow. Something like 70 % never have the truck bed loaded even once a month if axios is right.

"In a study conducted by Axios, researchers found that a significant portion of modern pickup truck owners rarely, if never, use their vehicles for hauling, towing, or other typical truck stuff. Instead, they are more likely to be used for shopping, running errands, and commuting."

Musk's ideas are good, but can't they make something attractive? That truck is hideous. Their cars are ugly. They don't have to make them that way. Maybe the vehicles will catch on but for the price of that truck, I would rather buy a diesel to pull my trailer.

kingbuzzo 12-06-2023 06:50 PM

Ya, there is no reason they have to be so ugly...technology aside...It's almost a conspiracy or a bad joke...we're past the point of making a statement I hope

Stainless is tough and expensive to form. I'm guessing the flat panel design goes a long way to reducing production costs. Might even reduce the cost of replacement panels, although they are probably still very expensive.
