Snake meat to replace beef

Have any of you ever eaten snake meat? I haven't and don't plan to do so. For those of you who have, what do you think?

I have not; but I have eaten eel while in New Zealand. I think the anatomy is very similar. Among other delicacies it was cooked using geothermal steam. As I recall the flavour was mild. It was less than enjoyable as too much time was spent separating the meat from the skeletal structure. Almost like trying to get a fork full of meat from in between turkey neck bones.

I had a rattler in Phoenix Arizona at a restaurant called Ruster's Rooste. It tasted like chicken.

Had it in French Polynesia of all places.

As stated, it does have a similarity to basic chicken. Lots of cooking freedom to season up.

So can you see a seamless transition from a ribeye to snake meat?

jhein 03-19-2024 12:42 AM

We had ribeyes last night that were spectacular.

I had some at a wild game feed and I agree it had a dry chicken flavor to it very similar to the alligator. My favorite was the smoked elk.

Don't worry about transitioning to snake though.... you must eat ze bugs!

I had some rattlesnake that had been deep fried by some legit Cajuns. Spectacular!! Then again, they could probably fry your shoe and it would be equally good.

Me naw. The hens look forward to finding any small snake. Been eating more beef this Spring.

Prime Rib special on.friday evenings has been too good to ever tink about snake meat. Tuna with anchovies and onion on Sunday lunch way better than it sounds.

The wild Salmon i grilled last night might have been on par with snake meat. Sure did have a carbon release.

You would be correct.;)

I liked Gator when I tried it, why not Python when I get the chance?

Your timing is interesting, you must have seen the same article I did on farming snake for meat.

My only objection is based on the word "replace" used by the OP in the title. I've eaten snake, gator, frog, snails, ostrich, Emu and lots of other things.. All by choice. Everything I eat is by choice. If somebody else wants me to replace anything, the answer is no.

Had Rattlesnake Chili years ago. It was pretty good.

Having said that, I'm not giving up on a good old beef steak to have a slice of snake anytime soon.

I've had rattlesnake...not bad.

Interestingly enough.this could also solve our prison overcrowding issue as well.

Isn't this being done to save the earth? Steers fart and snakes don't? Never was much of a science guy.

Nice simple way to sum it up.

They can keep snake meat!

I just use these to keep people from messing with stuff on back of truck.https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...3faf192af2.jpg

In Az you can get rattlesnake bits at restaurants, me I’ll pass. I like sushi but I draw the line on road kill type meats like Boa.

Was of the slant that harvesting those invasive big snakes out of the Everglades could be part of a resourceful work program for the local prisoners, even for relocated Swamp'ers from much further north.
