Best gasket for TH400 pan? Tranny dipstick tube length

Two questions:

1) Running a TH400 with a B&M deep aluminum pan? What gasket have you guys had the best luck with

2) What is proper distance into the pan for the dipstick itself to get a correct "full" measurement on the fluid level

Thanks

The Moroso gasket works great. https://www.summitracing.com/parts/mor-93103 From what I understand fluid should top off at the top of the oil pan rail.

X2

The cheap rubber ones that usually come with a new filter suck ass. I've never had good luck with them.

Thanks to you both for the info. Definitely agree on the quality of the one that came with the pan. :gag:

I've had best luck with cork gaskets. Make 4 studs by cutting off heads of bolts. Thread into corners to hold gasket until pan is installed with other bolts. Remove and replace studs with bolts. Good Luck.

New depth of pan doesn't affect the length of dipstick or tube. It still needs to be filled to top of dipstick mark. The new pan depth is just more fluid volume sitting lower in pan.

This is correct. The best way to check the accuracy of your dipstick (or determine where to mark it) is to remove the pan with the dipstick installed and confirm that the full line on the dipstick is roughly 1/4" above the gasket mating surface of the trans.

Thanks ZeGermanHam. Surprised that level is above mating surface and not at or slightly below.

Picture is of current dipstick

Wasnt sure if reading fill level correctly as have always had leak issues. Maybe just a poor fitting gasket previouly.

Just fyi, I had to shorten my aftermarket dipstick tube by 1.125" to get FILL line even with top of pan/bottom of tranny.

I would suggest the next time anyone drops a pan and has an aftermarket tube to double check its alignment. An over filled or under filled tranny can result in damage.
