Timing cover swap opinions wanted

I know this has prolly been talked about 1000 times but my thread search isn't pulling it up. But what all is involved in the swap from the 8 bolt WP cover to the newer one? Thanks in advance

YouŽll need a 1968 and later damper, crank pulley(s) w/reinforcement plate, water pump pulley matching WP snout length, 1969 is 4" and 1970-later is 4.5".
And if you have 3/8-7/16 belt steering servopump pulley youŽll need a 1/2" belt pulley for the pump.
DonŽt mix A/C, non-A/C and 1970 Firebird pulleys.

Just FYI. Make sure if you change the timing cover that you use sealer of your choosing on the timing cover gasket, as this is where coolant could potentially get into the oil. And especially if the timing cover or block shows any corrosion marks where the coolant flows from the timing cover through the block. (The two big holes in the front of the block) I use a ting coating of the right stuff. on both sides of timing cover gasket.

If you use a used piece inspect very carefully for corrosion. I learned this back in 73 era the hard way.

Also be sure to remove the lower locating dowels for the cover, clean them up and reinstall them.

Sometimes on removing a cover for the first time they can remain in the block and or the timing cover.
If your very unlucky they can fall into the nose of the pan so remove the cover slow with a eye on keeping track of them.

Do not fail to reuse them as it keeps the cover centered which then keeps the crank seal centered and doing its job.
